Comparison of conventional cone and membrane sound radiation A conceptual diagram showing a piston-like conventional source and distributed bending waves across a membrane. TRADITIONAL CONE TEFRA MEMBRANE Piston-like motion Distributed bending waves
How it works

The radiating surface is the membrane.

In Tefra Audio membrane loudspeakers, sound is produced by bending transverse waves generated on the radiating membrane. The waves reflect from the membrane edges, form complex modal structures and excite sound waves in the air.

01

No classic loudspeaker cone

Membrane-based acoustic architecture rather than traditional piston action.

02

Linear sound-pressure decrease

The presentation describes sound pressure decreasing linearly rather than quadratically.

03

Reduced feedback effect

Useful for spaces combining microphones, speech reinforcement and reflective surfaces.

04

High speech intelligibility

Sound and speech intelligibility (STI) are presented as significantly better than traditional audio systems.

Project examples

Compact systems in difficult acoustic spaces.

Examples and system configurations stated in the Tefra Audio presentation.

4,000 m² riding hall2 × Demon

Background music and referee announcements across a 100 × 40 × 12 m arena.

Glass and concrete walls, high intelligibility despite poor acoustic conditions, and total system power consumption of about 130–150 W.

Watch case video
Glass conference room2 × Misti

Video conferences and meetings without acoustic feedback from microphones.

Two systems integrated into an Armstrong ceiling; total system power consumption is stated at about 40 W.

Watch case video
Lustra bar, Moscow4 × Demon

Concert reinforcement in a two-floor club with concrete and glass walls.

Four Demon acoustic systems with classical subwoofers; satellite power consumption stated at about 500–600 W.

Watch case video
Russian Sound Congress2 × Etna

Atlantic Jazz concert without stage monitors.

Two Etna systems with flat Elbrus subwoofers; the presentation attributes monitor-free operation to the figure-of-eight polar pattern.

Alrosa conference roomCeiling integration

Sound integrated into the ceiling.

Membrane acoustic systems fit into the ceiling structures, keeping the room’s architectural lines visible.

Thank you for the opportunity to perform once again on your wonderful sound system! We have already been lucky twice to use your Tefra Audio speakers at our concerts as both the main and monitor system. In my rather extensive concert career, I have never encountered anything like it. I mean the combination of compact size and high-quality natural sound. Very few of today’s musical equipment manufacturers can boast of this!

I’ll keep it brief: I had the chance to work with a Tefra Audio sound system at my own concert. The experience was highly unusual. For such a compact system, the attack is incredibly fast, the signal is powerful, and the sound is remarkably open. The system’s uniqueness lies in its “uncolored” 360-degree sound; at first it feels unfamiliar, but then it becomes hard to give up. The sound appears out of nowhere; it just exists, that’s all.
